Sundial recovery Pliego (Murcia - Spain)

The "Consejeria de Turismo y Cultura" of the Government of Murcia has published the following press release:

The Director of "Bellas Artes y Bienes Culturales", Enrique Ujaldón, has presented today a replica made of the sundial, which belongs to the City of Pliego, which governed at the time the irrigation runs the town, as reported by regional government sources in a statement.

The general director accompanied him in the act by the Mayor, Isabel Toledo, a professor at the University of Murcia Francisco Chacón and Cajamurcia Foundation Manager, Pascual Martínez.

And, as a result of the disappearance of the sundial of the raft of regulatory risks of Pliego, the City requested the "Consejeria de Cultura y Turismo", through the Centre for Restoration, execute the work aimed at making a replica thereof. Thanks to the technical drawings of the Town Council has been able to address and solve this project.

The original sundial was the oldest in the region dating from 1751. Was carved in stone and on a round column and used for a long time to regulate irrigation batches of farmers who were entitled to water from the raft.

Represented a sun with a human face and was very precise, because it marks the hours, half, quarters and even a sign of seven minutes and 30 seconds. For replication was selected azaraque beige natural stone, its physical and mechanical characteristics.

From CMRS we celebrate this initiative, although the road to play, will keep alive the memory of this piece so valuable in dealing with gnomonics.
